Lexington-based technology firm SIS is planning to expand in the coming months and hire 15 new employees.
On Thursday, the company was approved for more than $500,000 in state tax incentives under two programs to offset the costs of the $5.5 million expansion.
Steve Sigg, CEO of SIS, said the company is planning to expand because the marketplace is changing as customers rely more on what's called cloud computing. That's the ability to provide common applications and access to information online rather than running programs off individual hard drives on computers.
"We're trying to position ourselves for that," Sigg said, noting the company is also looking to pick up business from customers who want to do more outsourcing and are in need of data processing.
The average pay for workers is expected to be $80,000 annually, according to state documents.
The company is examining whether to build a new facility in town or lease an existing structure, Sigg said. The company is based off Russell Cave Road near the headquarters of Lexmark International, but Sigg said it plans to relocate.
SIS employs 35 in Lexington but has 94 workers total. It operates in several cities, including Louisville and Cincinnati.
"I would expect us to expand outside of Lexington, too," he said. "We're very excited about it. We've been in Lexington for 28 years, and we've grown over that time and this is a great opportunity."
