PSC sets public meetings for input on Ky. Power rate case

The state Public Service Commission announced Thursday it will hold a series of public meetings during April in Ashland, Hazard and Pikeville to receive comments about the request by Kentucky Power for a rate increase.

The meetings are scheduled for 5 p.m. April 13 at the auditorium at Park Place at 1701 Central Avenue in Ashland, 5 p.m. April 20 at the auditorium at Pikeville High School at 120 Championship Drive, and 5 p.m. April 21 at the auditorium at Hazard Community and Technical College at 1 Community College Drive.

Kentucky Power has about 176,000 customers in 20 counties in Eastern Kentucky and has proposed to increase its electric rates by 24 percent overall. The company estimates the average monthly bill for residential customers would rise to nearly $153, an increase of about 34 percent.
