Lexington biopharmaceuticals company adds new rats

Lexington-based Transposagen Biopharmaceuticals, which creates genetically modified laboratory rats, said Thursday that it has added 170 genetically modified rates and their related biomaterials to its database of lab rats that can mimic human diseases.

"Major pharmaceutical companies, biotechnology companies and academic researchers have not had access to rat models of these genes in the past," Dr. Eric Ostertag, president and CEO of Transposagen, said in a statement.
