Cable service in Lexington and throughout the country might be affected beginning Sunday because an out-of-control satellite might interfere with another that provides television signals.
Jason Keller, spokesman for Insight Communications, said broadcast networks won't be affected — "You don't have to worry about Lost," he said with a laugh, referring to the popular ABC drama whose finale airs Sunday night — but a number of cable networks might see reception issues.
Among the networks are those owned by MTV Networks, Discovery Communications, Comcast Network Group, In Demand, Scripps Networks and A&E Networks. That group covers popular channels like Nickelodeon, MTV, Comedy Central, Discovery Channel, HGTV, History and Lifetime.
Keller stressed that the cable companies "expect there to be minimal, if any impact, to our customers."
He said the networks and cable providers are just cautioning customers that it is possible there will be interference. The two satellites are not expected to strike each other.
Keller said Insight has developed contingency plans to minimize any impact that might occur.
