The family of banker and community patron Samuel G. Barnes Sr., who died Tuesday, has not finalized funeral arrangements but has decided to proceed with his son's weekend wedding, which Barnes was in Georgia to attend.
Authorities listed his preliminary cause of death as drowning after he went for a morning swim, but a family friend said there were indications Barnes had a heart attack. An autopsy to determine the cause was delayed from Wednesday morning until the afternoon.
Barnes had been the leader of Fifth Third's Central Kentucky operations for 18 years and was a supporter of numerous non-profit organizations throughout Central Kentucky. W.R. Milward Mortuary — Broadway is in charge of arrangements.
