Lexington's second Aldi Food Market will open Aug. 20, the discount grocer announced this week.
The store is at 3695 Nicholasville Road on part of the former Man o' War Ford property next to Fayette Mall. The first Aldi in Lexington opened in 2007 at Colesbury Circle and New Circle Road.
Aldi stores employ distinctive features such as charging a shopping cart "rental fee" of a quarter, which is returned when the cart is turned in. Customers also can choose to bring their own bags or pay for them.
Also, a Sam's Club warehouse club will open Aug. 19 in Nicholasville. The store, located at 140 Kohl's Drive near U.S. 27, is more than 140,000 square feet and will employ about 175. NASCAR driver Jeff Burton will be at the store from 4:30-6 p.m. that day to sign autographs and have photos taken.
