The Kentucky Horse Racing Commission will have two open meetings next week on a proposed rule to allow out-of-competition testing of horses for blood-doping drugs such as erythropoietin (commonly know as EPO) and nerve-blocking venom.
The commission is inviting horse owners, trainers, veterinarians and anyone interested to discuss the topic either at Churchill Downs recreation hall in Louisville at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 24 or at the meeting room next to Keeneland's track kitchen in Lexington at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 25.
The meetings are open to the public, and attendees are invited to offer comments. The commission hopes to have a rule in place before the Breeders' Cup Thoroughbred championships in November.
