The public is invited to bring their sensitive documents to a free shredding event from noon to 5 p.m. Sept. 24 at the Lowe's at Hamburg.
The Better Business Bureau, which is sponsoring the event with the state attorney general's office and Shred-All Documents of Pikeville, notes that shredding paper documents with information about your identity is key to preventing identity theft.
Each person may bring up to 60 pounds of material to shred. Staples and paper clips do not need to be removed. CDs and DVDs may be brought to be shredded, though they will not be done on site.
For the shredding, Shred-All Documents will bring a truck that includes a video screen that shows visitors that their documents are being shredded. Empty lockable bins will be available for people who want to securely leave items for shredding.
