Kathleen Merrigan, the nation's deputy secretary of agriculture, will visit Lexington Thursday to announce federal funding for the Community Ventures Corporation that aims to support small businesses in rural communities.
The $605,000 in funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture will be used to make loans of up to $50,000 to small businesses and entrepreneurs in rural areas, according to a statement.
Merrigan will speak at 9 a.m. at the Community Ventures offices at 1450 North Broadway. Kentucky Highlands Investment Corporation is also receiving funding under the program.
At 1 p.m., Merrigan will speak at the Kentucky Women in Agriculture Conference in Boyd County.
