An Elizabethtown man has been named one of seven Xerox employees nationwide to receive a year off fully paid to volunteer with a non-profit.
Stephen Brown, who was worked for Xerox since 1973 and leads a team of technical service employees, will spend a year helping recruit more volunteers for the Lincoln Heritage Council of the Boy Scouts of America in Louisville. Brown plans to develop outreach programs with the goal of recruiting 1,200 more children and adding 60 new troops within three years.
"My passion for the Boy Scouts stems back to my childhood," Brown said. "Growing up in a rural community, I did not have the opportunity to participate in these types of activities.
"As an adult, I can now recognize that the Boy Scouts provide such a sound foundation ... that disadvantaged youth in rural areas, as well as urban communities, could really benefit from."
