ACS is hiring 200 new full-time, permanent call-center employees in Lexington.
The company, which specializes in providing services to other businesses, is bolstering its operations for a consumer-electronics company. The company doesn't publicly identify its customers.
"They've liked the work we've done for them, and there's a deep talent pool here," spokesman Chris Gilligan said. "They needed to expand and agreed Lexington was a great place because of the work ACS and our employees have delivered."
The jobs will be at the Yorkshire Boulevard call center, Gilligan said. The company plans to hire the employees quickly, and it already has begun to hire some.
The entry-level jobs pay about $10 an hour, with opportunities for bonuses based on performance. The workers are spread across two shifts daily and, with the call center open daily, "there will be a variety of days and hours," Gilligan said.
As part of the expansion, ACS is hiring 650 people nationwide, with the remainder in North Carolina and Oregon.
The hiring comes on top of an announcement from the company in September that it planned to hire 700 workers in Kentucky: 650 in Lexington and 50 in London. Two hundred of those jobs in Lexington were to be permanent and the rest temporary; the employees fielded calls for companies enrolling workers in health care plans.
The expansions add to ACS's stature as a large local employer. After this hiring is completed, the company will have more than 3,000 employees in Lexington and nearly 5,000 in Kentucky.
"Kentucky is an ideal location to serve our clients," Connie Harvey, chief operating officer of commercial operations, said in a statement. "We have access to a talented labor pool, a good business climate, and our existing presence all make it easy to grow here."
