Smoothie chain Jamba Juice plans to open a restaurant in Lexington in mid-December. The store will open at the CenterCourt development along Upper Street in the former J. Gumbo's Cajun restaurant that recently closed.

Jamba Juice, which was founded in California in 1990, is best known for its smoothies, but the chain also serves organic tea lattes, steel-cut oatmeal, wraps, salads and sandwiches.

The Lexington restaurant will be the first in the country to offer yogurt, franchisee Don Marquess said. Marquess, his wife, Emmy, and partners Mary and John Speaker have the franchise rights for all of Kentucky, and for southern Indiana and southern Ohio.

A second Lexington store is expected to open in Fayette Mall in the first quarter of next year, in the entrance area near P.F. Chang's.

The deal was brokered by NAI Isaac Commercial Real Estate and Haymaker Bean.

"We are excited to be adding Jamba Juice as a valued tenant at CenterCourt," said Al Isaac, president of NAI Isaac.
