Verizon Wireless will launch its 4G Long Term Evolution network in parts of Lexington on Thursday.
The company has said the network will provide data speeds on 4G-capable phones up to 10 times faster than speeds on its 3G network.
Verizon's 4G coverage initially will be most of the area inside New Circle Road, including downtown Lexington and the University of Kentucky campus. Also covered will be Fayette Mall and land around Interstate 75 heading north to the Kentucky Horse Park.
Data speeds should average 5 to 12 megabits per second downloading and 2 to 5 Mbps uploading, according to a company news release.
