U.S. betting down for November; purses up for month

Wagering on U.S. races was down 3.47 percent in November, according to Equibase.

Betting on Thoroughbred races was just over $874 million last month even though there were more days of racing, according to monthly figures released yesterday.

Year to date, wagering is down 7.13 percent from $10.7 billion to $9.8 billion.

Purses last month were up almost $6.4 million, or 6.65 percent, for the month. Year to date, purses are up 1.68 percent to $987.5 million.
