The Federal Communications Commission has given approval to Time Warner Cable's plan to buy Insight Communications, the only cable operator in Lexington and the largest in Kentucky, in a $3 billion deal. The approval by the organization came Tuesday.
In announcing the deal in August, the companies said they expected the sale to close in the first half of 2012.
"The proposed merger has momentum and has been approved by nearly 200 regulatory authorities," said Insight spokesman Jason Keller. He said no specific closing date has yet been set.
