Keeneland this spring will do what no other U.S. racetrack has done: let you bet in increments of a dime on some pooled wagers.
When the Spring Meet starts April 6, trifectas can be bet for a minimum of 50 cents and in less-than-whole-dollar increments above that. So, too, can Pick Threes, Pick Fours and Pick Fives. So your wager can be for 50 cents, or for 60 cents and so forth.
The $2 minimum bet remains for win, place and show betting.
"Every bettor has a story about how he or she didn't include a horse in their wager because it cost too much and that horse ended up being the one they needed to cash a ticket," said Vince Gabbert, Keeneland chief operating officer. "Fractional wagering is a solution that allows you to get the maximum benefit at the minimum investment."
Keeneland also will offer something else to help casual fans: decimal odds (on some in-house televisions). Popular in Europe and Australasia, this shows the actual winning amount to be paid to the bettor.
Keeneland will offer more information on all kinds of bets at Wagering Central, located under the grandstand, where you can also sign up for FastBet mobile betting app and Keeneland Select, the track's advance-deposit wagering platform.
