Lexington brewery opens, begins canning beer

West Sixth Brewery in Lexington has begun brewing and canning beer.

The first beer, West Sixth IPA, was canned Friday. The beer is for sale at the brewery's tap room from 3 to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, noon to midnight Friday and Saturday, and 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday.

"We're launching with four beers initially: the West Sixth IPA, the Smithtown Brown, the Dead Heat Wheat and the Deliberation Amber," head brewer Robin Sither said. "We plan to brew a stout and a double IPA over the next few weeks."

Founder Ben Self said, "Over the next few months, we hope to sell beer throughout Central Kentucky in our can. We think it's a great product, since it is better for the beer and the planet when compared to a bottle."

The brewery is at 501 West Sixth Street.
