Gov. Steve Beshear on Thursday appointed Darby Dan Farm owner John Phillips to the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission. Phillips, who is also an attorney, replaces Kentucky Derby winning trainer John T. Ward, who became commission executive director last month.
Phillips "is committed to our priorities of safety and integrity in this sport," Beshear said.
The commission is expected to revisit a controversial ban on the raceday use of furosemide, known as Lasix or Salix, at its next meeting later this month.
