Regional retailer Fitzpatrick's Furniture will move later this month from its location at Eastland into the former Kroger at Old Paris Road.
"We were desperately in need of more space," said Jeff VanderHorst, manager of the furniture store that will see its showroom jump from around 15,000 square feet to more than 30,000 square feet.
The company had been searching for a new home for the past two years and purchased the former Kroger location in March, VanderHorst said.
Built in 1994, the site originally housed a Randall's grocery, though Kroger acquired it a year later as part of a four-store acquisition. Kroger closed the grocery in 2011 as part of a move that saw its nearby Bryan Station store expand.
Fitzpatrick's Furniture, which also has locations in Frankfort, Florence, Louisville and Cincinnati, has added a bold green-and-yellow paint scheme to the roof of the building.
"We try to keep a fun and festive atmosphere," VanderHorst said.
The company will share some of the space with consumer lender Eagle Financial Services, which is moving its local office from Richmond Road.
