Central Kentucky will soon be home to a job club to help the unemployed and underemployed in their search for work.
Fayette County Cooperative Extension and the University of Kentucky Alumni Association have partnered to start the club, which holds its first meeting 9 to 10:15 a.m. Tuesday at the Cooperative Extension offices, 1140 Red Mile Place.
The group is free.
"It's not just for UK alumni," said Kelly Allgeier, alumni career counselor at the UK Alumni Association.

"A lot of large cities have job clubs," Allgeier said, noting she doesn't think Lexington has an active club.
"There's definitely a great need for this type of service," Allgeier said.
Each meeting will begin with a presentation about a topic such as improving a résumé or enhancing interview skills. It's expected the presentations will be 30 to 40 minutes.
The remainder of the meeting will be for the group members to share stories of what's worked for them, as well as leads on jobs.
"One person may have knowledge of an opportunity, but it's just not a good fit for them," Allgeier said. "The job club's a good place for people to share ideas and talk about what's working and what roadblocks they've seen."
Fayette County Cooperative Extension agent Diana Doggett said it also helps for members to be supported by others in similar situations.
"A lot of people lose momentum and grow frustrated," she said. "We're hoping this is an opportunity to become part of a group that understands exactly what you're experiencing."
The goal of the group is in line with Cooperative Extension's mission to educate and provide needed information and services to Kentucky residents, she said.
"At a time like this when the economy is less than desirable, the job club fulfills that quest," she said.
