January 25, 2013 02:20 PM

Farmers Capital Bank Corp. announced this week that it earned $2.12 million, or 28 cents a share, for the fourth quarter. That's up from earnings of $775,000, or 10 cents a share, in the same period in 2011.

"We continue to make strides improving the company's overall financial condition and profitability," bank president Lloyd Hillard Jr. said in a statement. "Non-performing loans, while still elevated ... are now at their lowest point since the third quarter of 2009."

For the full year, the company earned $10.2 million, or $1.37 a share, up from $842,000, or 11 cents a share, in 2011.

Farmers Capital Bank operates 36 bank branches in 23 communities in Central and Northern Kentucky.
