Restaurateur Jeff Ruby tweets he's opening in Lexington, says no more

This is how the CentrePointe block looked before excavation work began for an underground parking garage. It is the condition to which developers would have to return it, according to the city, which has demanded that the hole be filled in.

Restaurateur Jeff Ruby tweeted Friday afternoon that he plans to open a restaurant in Lexington's long-delayed CentrePointe development downtown in May 2015.

"BREAKING NEWS: Jeff Ruby's opening at CentrePointe dtn Lexington, May 2015," read the tweet from user @TheRealJeffRuby.

However, the Cincinnati steakhouse magnate's corporate office said that Ruby would not be immediately discussing details of his plan.

Ruby's company, Jeff Ruby's Culinary Entertainment, has upscale restaurants in Louisville, Cincinnati and at the Belterra casino in Indiana.

Ruby indicated as early as 2011 that he was interested in locating in Lexington's CentrePointe block, even if the restaurant had to open independently of the rest of the development, which has long been stalled.

Referring to the CentrePointe developer, Ruby said in July 2011, "I told Dudley (Webb) we want to go ahead and do the restaurant now."

Webb said Friday afternoon that the project is still subject to state and city approval and until that is received, no formal announcement will be made.
