The Hospice Care Center located in St. Joseph Hospital and operated by Hospice of the Bluegrass has been named a 2013 Hospice Honors recipient, an award recognizing the top 100 hospice agencies that provide the best patient care as rated by the patient's caregiver.

Debbie Perkins is director of the Hospice Care Center.

The Jewish Federation of the Bluegrass have recognized the following community leaders who are making a difference on behalf of the Federation: Camp Shalom leader, Kathy Feinberg, President's Award; JFB's secretary and chair of the Shalom Editorial committee, Hanna Smith, received the Cookie Wenneneker Volunteer of the Year Award; JFB board member Amy Faust Mayer received the Young Leadership Award.

Junior Achievement of the Bluegrass is adding three new members into JA's Bluegrass Business Hall of Fame. The inductees are being honored for achievement in their careers, service to the community and their part as role models for youth. The 2013 inductees include: University of Kentucky men's basketball coach John Calipari; past Keeneland president Nick Nicholson, past president of Keeneland; and Elmer Whitaker, founder of Whitaker Bancorp, what is now Whitaker Bank Corp. of Kentucky.

The Urban League of Lexington is accepting nominations through July 5 for its Individual and Corporate Diversity Champion awards. Nomination forms can be found at or Award winners will be announced at the Urban League's 45th Annual Empowerment Banquet on October 21.

■ Certified Public Accountant Donna Smith, owner of Donna J. Smith & Co., has been named Kentucky Financial Services Advocate of the Year. Smith is a member of the local chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners. The award is sponsored by the U.S. Small Business Administration and honors the contributions and achievements of entrepreneurs. The Kentucky Financial Services Advocate of the Year award is given to a person who assists small businesses through advocacy efforts to increase the usefulness and availability of accounting or financial services for small businesses.
