The Toyota Motor Manufacturing of Kentucky has given a $10,000 grant to the Friends of Kentucky Theatre to help with efforts to update the historic Lexington landmark, which opened in 1922.
"The Kentucky Theatre provides a pretty important educational component for the community," Ann Hagan-Michel, a board member of the Kentucky Theatre, said, adding that Toyota was attracted to that.
This donation puts the theater at a total of $285,327 towards their effort to raise $1.5 million for renovations.
Hagal-Michel said the 90-year-old theater needs upgrading because of its constant usage. These renovations include technical upgrades, fixtures, new carpeting, updates to the concessions, and a restoration of the iconic marquee.
