WUKY-91.3 FM has tapped a familiar voice as its new reporter and anchor.

Karyn Czar, whose past credits include news reporter for WLAP-630 AM and Lee Cruse's co-host on the WXZZ-103.3 FM morning show, will take over the post vacated last month when Brenna Angel went to work for Lexington Mayor Jim Gray's office.

Czar is currently the social media and marketing director for the Kentucky Department of Travel and Tourism. She will join WUKY on July 1.

Czar is also well known for her local stage roles, most recently the title role in Balagula Theatre's 2011 production of David and Amy Sedaris' The Book of Liz.

As a reporter, she garnered numerous Edward R. Murrow and Associated Press Awards before she was laid off from WLAP in 2009.

"I am thrilled to have someone as accomplished as Karyn Czar join our news team," WUKY news director Alan Lytle said in a news release.

In the same release, Czar said, "I'm thrilled to join a station where local and timely news is a priority and WUKY continues to make that commitment day in and day out. I've worked alongside several WUKY staff members in the past, and I know this is a perfect fit for the station and for me. I can't wait to start pounding the pavement again for great stories that impact our community!"
