Lexington to host its first Social Media Day

Attention fans of Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and all other social media: Lexington will host the first local edition of Mashable.com's Social Media Day on Sunday.

Social Media Day is designed for people to have open discussions about social networks.

Meetups are held around the world. Several Central Kentucky social media specialists will be at the Lexington event to answer questions and provide information. There also will be social media-themed cake.

"Social media is constantly evolving," said Lexington social media coach Ali Kelly, one of the local organizers. "Whether it's the features, platforms or images, it's hard for people to keep track. People like me love to help people who need assistance navigating these networks."

Mashable.com, a news site focusing on digital culture, launched Social Media Day in 2010 to identify and celebrate digital innovations. This is the first year that there will be an event in Lexington.

"We want to make this event bigger in the future," Kelly said. "We want to make this an annual thing here in Lexington."

The free event starts at 7 p.m. at the Jefferson Davis Inn Grille and Tavern, 319 Cedar Street.
