■ University of California, San Francisco scientist and cell biologist Dyche Mullins, a Lexington native, has been named a Howard Hughes Medical Institute investigator.
The appointment becomes effective in September and will increase the number of Howard Hughes Medical Institute investigators at UCSF to 17 and to 353 nationwide.
Mullins was one of 27 new investigators selected from among 1,155 applicants.
■ Robert S. Ryan, a partner at Wyatt, Tarrant & Combs, was presented with the President's Cup at the June 27 Lexington Rotary Meeting for his outstanding service to the Rotary Club and the community.

The President's Cup has been awarded since 1973 and is the highest honor that the club can bestow upon one of its members.
Ryan was president of The Rotary Club of Lexington in 2003-2004 and served on the Board from 1997-2005. He served as Rotary Director Governor for District 6470 (eastern half of Kentucky) in 2010-2011.
■ Susan Wright, a member of the Lexington Public Library Board of Trustees, has completed the Kentucky Public Library Trustee Certification Program.
The Trustee Certification program is available to all Kentucky public library trustees through the Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives. It was created to provide trustees with tools to help them fulfill their responsibilities to the libraries and their communities.
