The University of Kentucky's Gatton College Executive Education Center again is offering a Society for Human Resource Management Learning System Course designed for individuals who want to achieve a certification as a professional in human resources or a senior professional in human resources.
The SHRM Certification Course will be held every Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. beginning Aug. 13 and continuing through Nov. 12 at the Hilary J. Boone Center, Rose Street, Lexington.
Program fees are $995 for SHRM chapter members and $1,045 for non-members, which includes materials, free parking and snacks.

Pearl Interactive Network, a national staffing firm, will host a two-day job fair beginning July 31 for 300 customer service openings in its Winchester contact center. The fair will be 4-7 p.m. July 31 at the Winchester Career Center, 15 West Lexington Avenue, Winchester, and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Aug. 1 at the Bluegrass Technical College, 2020 Rolling Lane, Winchester.
Candidates will interview for positions that include customer service representatives, administrative assistants and supervisors.

The Third International Forum on Sustainable Manufacturing will be Aug. 9 at the Hilary J. Boone Center at UK. The event is organized by the Institute for Sustainable Manufacturing at the University of Kentucky.
The forum will bring together nationally and internationally known experts in sustainable manufacturing from industry, academia and federal agencies to examine advances in sustainable manufacturing at the product, process and systems (including supply-chain) levels.
Cost is $145. The fee includes attendance to all sessions, coffee breaks, parking and lunch. A limited number of seats sponsored by the College of Engineering and the Institute for Sustainable Manufacturing are available for University of Kentucky students, faculty and staff on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Business of Writing International Summit will be held 7:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Aug. 2 and 7:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Aug. 3 at Indiana Wesleyan University's Louisville Conference Center, 1500 Alliant Avenue. A pre-Summit Self-Publishing Workshop will be held 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Aug. 1 with Peggy DeKay, book coach and author of Self Publishing for Virgins.
The Summit will teach writers and aspiring authors how to grow book sales and build an author platform. New York Times best-selling, self-published author Victorine Lieske will be the keynote speaker for the Summit. The 11th Annual Lexington Area Minority Business Expo will be Aug. 1-2 at the Lexington Convention Center. The event offers women and minority business owners a chance to exhibit goods and services, to network and to hear speakers discuss their path to success.
The keynote speaker at this year's luncheon will be entrepreneur and best-selling author Farrah Gray. Raised in the Chicago's south side, he defied the odds and became a millionaire at the age of 14.

The 2013 Kentucky Association for Environmental Education Conference will be Sept. 12-15 at Lake Barkley State Park in Cadiz. Highlights of this year's family-friendly conference include sessions and workshops on solar energy, archeology, quilting and raptor education. A number of off-site sessions around Lake Barkley and the Land Between The Lakes, include canoe trips, hikes, an archeological tour and a chance to spin fiber at the Homeplace in LBL. There will also be horseback riding, archery and trapshooting available at the park for participants and family members.

IRS Workshop: Stay Exempt will be 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Aug. 13 at the Campbell County Cooperative Extension Service, 3500 Alexandria Pike, Highland Heights.
