Bryan Avenue is getting its first "Night Market" on Friday.
The North Limestone Cultural Development Corp. — also known as NoLi CDC — will hold a "pop-up" market 7 p.m. to midnight on Bryan Avenue between Limestone and Loudon Avenue, near Castlewood Park. The free event will feature music, a movie and street vendors.
Vendors include Border State Made leather goods, Kentucky for Kentucky, West Sixth Brewing, Crank and Boom ice cream, Bradford Barbecue, Institute 193 gallery, ELandF Gallery, Hop Hop Records, United Way of the Bluegrass, AIDS Volunteers Inc. and Fleet Street Hair Shoppe.
Lexington hip-hop artist Devine Carama and the Houston-based quintet WindSync, in Lexington as the Chamber Music Festival of Lexington's ensemble-in-residence, will be among the music acts. The Lexington Film League will host a screening of the movie Koyaanisqatsi, an environmental-themed film featuring music by composer Phillip Glass, at 10 p.m. (Koyaanisqatsi is a Hopi term meaning "life out of balance.")

"We wanted to create a temporary urban space, to play with the landscape of an area that's normally kind of concrete and industrial and a little boring, ... to put in some fun elements," said Paul Brown, the programs and projects assistant with the North Limestone group.
"Following the trend of pop-up shops, this is a pop-up market," Brown said.
The "pop-up" concept is inspired by the idea of "temporary urbanization," according to a release from the NoLi CDC. That changes a space to engage the community and foster relationships between creative people and the public.
The space chosen on Bryan Avenue, for example, is normally used as a cut-through by motorists either headed downtown via Limestone or to New Circle Road via Bryan Avenue.
Parking will be available in the neighborhoods around the pop-up market and at a nearby church. The Broke Spoke bike shop will provide a bike valet service.
Brown said the group hopes for 300 to 400 participants at the market.
