Instead of taking five minutes to check your Facebook page or read up on celebrity gossip, you could be boosting your bottom line.

In just five minutes you can save $50. I know it sounds crazy, but here are some simple ways to sign up for rewards that will just give you something free. Many businesses give away freebies because they are trying to get you to visit their establishment or try their product. The freebie may come in the form of a coupon, an email or something in your mailbox, so take advantage of the rewards.

■ A great way to get free stuff plus help people is to be a donor at the Kentucky Blood Center. Join the 2013- 2014 Winter Triple Crown Club and complete three donations to receive a KBC T-shirt, a pair of movie passes and a KBC umbrella. It only takes a minute to make your appointment online at

■ Buy tickets for the new movie Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 at Fandango to receive a free download of the first Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs movie.

Go out with a friend and get a free meal just for signing up for reward programs at certain restaurants. Here are some examples.

■ Culver's Restaurant offers you a free value basket with the purchase of another basket for signing up for their eClub.

■ Become a fan of the Dairy Queen's Blizzard fan club to receive a coupon for buy one Blizzard get one free. You will receive up to six buy one get one free coupons throughout the year.

■ Gimme More Stripes reward program at TGI Friday's starts you off with a free appetizer or dessert plus a jump the line pass allowing you to skip to the front of the wait list.

■ Join the Pancake Revolution at IHOP to receive a free meal coupon within 24 hours of signing up.

■ Get a free box combo meal at Raising Cane's when you become a member of their Caniac Club.

■ Sign up for Godiva rewards club to receive a free piece of chocolate every month.

■ My Coke Rewards has just launched a Beta program and is offering up a brand new rewards system. Whenever you participate in various missions, you'll raise your status and win awards. The higher your status, the better the awards will be. You can currently get a free $5 Domino's eGIft Card reward whenever you reach Gold status.

■ Free TENA sample pack that includes wipes, wash and three undergarments.

■ Text the word SAINTS to the number 727272 to get a code good for a free one-day video game rental at Redbox kiosks. Code expires Oct. 7.
