Fire hazard leads Google and HP to recall Chromebook 11 chargers

Google and HP are recalling electrical chargers for the popular Chromebook 11 tablet computer because of a fire hazard.

The tablet's charger can overheat and melt, posing a risk of fire, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said.

The agency said Google received nine reports of chargers overheating and melting while in use. One user was slightly burned, and there was one report of minor property damage from an overheating charger, the commission said.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled chargers, and contact Google for free replacements, the commission said.

The recall involves chargers that were sold with the HP Chromebook 11. The model number, MU15-N1052-A00S, is stamped on the face of the battery charger.

Consumers should stop using the charger unless otherwise instructed, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled product.
