Fayette Mall announced Thursday that a Michael Kors store is scheduled to open at the mall this fall.

The Lexington store would be the first in Kentucky for the upscale retailer, part of the growing business of the veteran fashion designer, perhaps best known for his longtime stint as a judge on the reality show Project Runway.

The Michael Kors store will be close to the mall's food court, in space currently occupied by Aveda, the cosmetics and beauty store. Aveda will move elsewhere in the mall.

Travis Farren, regional director of leasing for Fayette Mall, said in a news release that the addition of the Michael Kors store "will add to the strength and dominance of Fayette Mall."

The closest Michael Kors store is in Cincinnati's Kenwood Towne Centre.

The Michael Kors brand is described in the news release as being known for "distinctive designs, materials and craftsmanship with a jet-set aesthetic that combines stylish elegance and a sport attitude."

Michael Kors offers the Kors luxury collection and the Michael Michael Kors accessible luxury collection. The Michael Kors store at Fayette Mall will include handbags, accessories, jewelry, shoes and clothing.

The retail business is part of the publicly traded Michael Kors Holding Limited, established in 1981. For its most recent quarter, ended Sept. 28, the company reported that total revenue increased 38.9 percent to $740.3 million from $532.9 million in the second quarter of fiscal 2013, and retail net sales increased 46.8 percent to $355.6 million.

The company said last fall that it expects total revenue for fiscal 2014 to be $2.9 billion to $3 billion. It operates nearly 400 retail stores worldwide.

Kors himself is honorary chairman and chief creative officer for Michael Kors Holdings Limited. Kors, 54, has received awards including the Council of Fashion Designers of America Lifetime Achievement Award in 2010.
