Work continued on the demolition/conversion of the former Sears store at Fayette Mall, 3401 Nicholasville Rd. in Lexington, Ky., Monday, March 8, 2014. The 150,000 square foot Sears, which closed in January, was an anchor for the original mall, built in 1971. When the south wing was added in 1993, the store became a pass-through between the original and new sections of the mall. A new covered hallway has been constructed to allow patrons access to the entire mall. Part of the new hallway goes through a section of the old Sears and part goes outside. The new wing of Fayette Mall will open at 10 a.m. Nov. 7.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony is to be held then at the new mall entrance of the middle wing near The Cheesecake Factory, which opens Oct. 28.
Stores in the new wing include H&M, Altar'd State, Janie and Jack, Jos. A. Bank, Vera Bradley, Swarovski, L'Occitane en Provence, Aveda, Clark's, Oakley, Eddie Bauer and Zales.
In addition to the ceremony, Santa arrives at 5 p.m. with Olive the Reindeer, also in the atrium.
The celebration will also include face painting, an "Elfie Selfie" photo booth, live music and more.
