■ Biff Buckley and Anthony Humphress (Humphress-Buckley Holdings LLC) purchased 143 one- and two-bedroom units near the University of Kentucky campus from William Wassmer for $9.6 million on March 19. The 131 apartments and 12 townhomes are in nine locations between Euclid Avenue and High Street and Linden Walk to Transylvania Park.
Buckley and Humphress met 13 years ago when Humphress worked with a nonprofit group on UK's campus. They now serve together on the board of directors for the Lexington Leadership Foundation. Buckley, a native Lexingtonian, was an insurance agency owner for 40 years and has been a real estate investor for 35 years. He recently sold the First National Building to the 21c Hotel Group. Humphress is a graduate of Transylvania University and serves on the board of the Greater Lexington Apartment Association. His company, KampusProperties.com, already managed/owned 230 beds around the campus area. This acquisition makes Kampus Properties one of the largest locally owned real estate companies specializing in campus rentals, with more than 430 beds to choose from.
