Vacationers will soon again be able to trade in the eight-hour drive to Myrtle Beach for a one-hour flight.
Allegiant Travel Co. will resume seasonal service to Myrtle Beach from Blue Grass Airport on June 4.
Allegiant, an American low-cost airline, began the flights last May and decided to resume the flights this summer.
"We've been pleased with how our flights have been booking from Blue Grass Airport thus far," said Laura Billiter, public relations specialist at Allegiant. "We're bringing back our flights after a short hiatus because of positive demand we've seen for low-cost vacations."
The nonstop flights are scheduled to operate three times a week through Aug. 16. Tickets are sold on Allegiant.com.
Myrtle Beach is Allegiant's fifth destination from Lexington. The other Allegiant destinations from Blue Grass Airport are all in Florida: Fort Lauderdale, Orlando (Sanford), Punta Gorda and Tampa Bay.
Allegiant has offered flights out of Lexington since 2008.
