Bar and music venue Cosmic Charlie’s is moving from University Plaza at the corner of Woodland and Euclid avenues, where it has been since 2009, to National Avenue, where it will take on more of a neighborhood bar feel.

Co-owner Mark Evans said the last show at the current spot will be Sept. 30. The new one is scheduled to open by Nov. 1.

“We’ll transition over to the new spot throughout October,” Evans said. “We wanted a little bit of a fresh start. ... We like the opportunity to move into a locally focused community.”

The new Cosmic Charlie’s will be at 723 National, next to to the brewery Mirror Twin, which is partnering with Rolling Oven pizzeria. They will share a parking lot.

John Tresaloni, co-owner of Cosmic Charlie’s, said the new space is slightly smaller but will give them natural light and outdoor seating.

“We’ve been trying to get that forever,” Tresaloni said. Before Cosmic Charlie’s, the pair had The Fishtank, which was across the street on Euclid.

They anticipate opening earlier than the 9 p.m. they have been opening at the existing location. And for evenings, they plan to bring in food trucks.

“It’s going to be awesome,”he said “We’ll have new everything, and the neighborhood is a burgeoning new district. ... The current place is like a cave, … We couldn’t get anybody in during the day. This place has two 20-foot glass garage doors, and we anticipate doing some daytime stuff. Maybe even do some events.”

Evans, who also is a partner in the Louisville music-booking business Vectortone, said the move will reinvigorate the Cosmic Charlie’s lineup.

“There will be some changes,” he said. “We’ll have similar acts, but more. I think we’re ready to bring back the good shows.”
