Maker's Mark, Beam parent sees sales gains

Beam Suntory reported Tuesday that the company's alcoholic beverage grew sales 111 percent over the same quarter last year. Much of the gains came from the purchase last year of Beam by the Japanese company.

The premium whiskey portfolio, led by bourbon, saw double-digit sales increases for Kentucky-made Knob Creek and Basil Hayden's, as well as Hibiki and Laphroaig, the company said. Maker's Mark and Canadian Club also delivered strong gains, the company said.

Beam Suntory said that it plans to launch Hibiki Japanese Harmony in the U.S. and other key global markets later this year.

For the full year, Beam Suntory said it anticipates company-wide sales increases of almost 8 percent.
