VIDEO GAMES: Games you’ll be drooling over

So what does 2009 hold for gaming? More great games. With all the current-generation consoles now firmly entrenched, developers are beginning to really show off the power of the systems (well, the Xbox 360 and the PS3, not the underpowered Gamecube-like Wii).

So here are some of 2009's most highly anticipated games. Start saving now.

‘God of War III'

System: PS3.

Release date: TBA.

The next in the Greek mythology series sees protagonist Kratos bent on destroying Olympus and Zeus for the gods' betrayal of him. It will be the first for a current-generation system. Most of the game is shrouded in mystery. But one thing's for sure: It will help boost sales of the PS3, which has lagged behind the Wii and Xbox 360.

‘Dante's Inferno'

System: Xbox 360, PS3.

Date: TBA (2009, we hope).

The highlight of high school English classes everywhere is being adapted by EA for gaming. And why not? Traveling (fighting, in EA's case) through the Nine Circles of Hell has lots of promise. See a teaser trailer at

‘Resident Evil 5'

System: Xbox 360, PS3.

Date: March 13.

Previous hero Chris Redfield heads to Africa to fight a bioterrorism threat that has the residents turning into mindless creatures. Sound familiar? Joining Redfield is new character Sheva Alomar. The installment promises co-op gameplay, which should be interesting.e_SClBe_SSLqFinal Fantasy XIII'

System: Xbox 360, PS3.

Date: TBA.

Will this be the final Final Fantasy? Yeah, right. But it does offer plenty of intrigue, as always. This time around, maker Square Enix is developing three games based in the same universe — Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy Versus XIII and Final Fantasy Agito XIII (for the PSP). The stories are not directly related, though, according to reports.

System: Nintendo DS.

Date: March 17.

The acclaimed series comes to the DS with an original tale. And in an amusing development, you'll apparently be able to tattoo your gang members using the DS stylus.

e_SSLqStreet Fighter IV'

System: Xbox 360, PS3, PC.

Date: Feb. 17 (Xbox 360 and PS3), TBA (PC).

Classic characters like Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li and Guile return alongside debuting fighters including Crimson Viper, Abel, El Fuerte and Rufus. And the six-button gameplay popularized by the earlier 2-D versions returns, though this game includes 3-D environments and characters.e_SClB‘Wolfenstein'

System: Xbox 360, PS3, PC.

Date: TBA.

Id's classic World War II game is reinvented for the current-generation consoles, and, of course, the PC.

‘The Sims 3'

System: PC.

Date: Feb. 20.

Customization gets a boost, as EA boasts the game offers “endless creative possibilities.” Each Sim will feature five traits from more than 60, which include kleptomaniac, insane and evil. Sounds deliciously evil.
