Repeat offender charged with murder after fatal crash

A repeat impaired-driving offender has been charged with murder after causing a wreck that killed a Floyd County woman, state police said in a news release.

Tiffany Adams Blankenship, 22, of Beaver died in the wreck, which involved three vehicles, state police said.

Police charged Malen Mitchell, 37, of Beaver with murder, driving under the influence third offense, driving with a license suspended because of a drunken-driving conviction and leaving the scene of an accident, according to the news release.

The wreck happened shortly before 6 p.m. Tuesday on Ky. 979 in the Ligon community.

Mitchell was traveling north in a 1996 Chevrolet pickup truck when the pickup crossed the center line and collided with a 2004 Hyundai Sonata driven by Judith Blankenship, 50, of Beaver.

The impact caused Blankenship's car to cross into the other lane, where it collided with a 1996 Chevrolet Blazer driven by Jennifer Newsome, 29, of Wheelwright.

Tiffany Adams Blankenship was a passenger in Judith Blankenship's car.

State police did not say whether others were injured in the crash, which remains under investigation.
