A 26-year-old Lexington woman was charged with first-degree criminal abuse this week after her 3-year-old son was burned with hot water, police said.
Sherelle Roberts, spokeswoman for Lexington police, said the University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital notified police of the boy's injuries Sunday, and officers arrested Ariana Edith Ortega-Hernandez of 318 Bluegrass Avenue.
The alleged abuse happened Friday.
The "suspect intentionally caused serious physical injury and/or cruel punishment" to the boy, the police report said.
Roberts said Wednesday morning that she didn't have any additional information about the boy's injuries.
The boy remained at the UK hospital Wednesday.
Ortega-Hernandez remained in the Fayette County jail Wednesday morning on a $5,000 full cash bond, Capt. Darin Kelly said. She pleaded not guilty to the charge Tuesday and is scheduled to return to court for a preliminary hearing Aug. 29.
