Kentucky State Police located a missing police transport van about 10 a.m. Friday that was allegedly stolen by Stevie Wynn, 32, of Thornton, after he escaped while en route to jail.
Perry County Sheriff Les Burgett said the van, which was in good shape, was found within a mile or two of Wynn's parents' home in Letcher County by a water maintenance worker.
On Wednesday, Wynn allegedly overpowered an officer driving the van that was returning Wynn to the Letcher County jail after a court appearance in Hazard on misdemeanor shoplifting charges.
Wynn was not handcuffed in the van and he allegedly broke through the screen that divides the driver from the inmates, pushed the driver out of the van and took off. The escape occurred on Ky. 15, and later that night the van was seen on Route 7 near Isom in Letcher County.
Police had been looking in that area because his parents live there. And while they haven't found Wynn yet, "that does give us a better idea of where he might be," Burgess said.
Wynn is 6-foot-1 and weighs 160 pounds. He has brown hair and blue eyes and a tattoo on his upper left arm.
