Two die in single car wreck

Two women were killed in a single vehicle accident early Saturday in Walton, according to the Boone County Sheriff's Department.

Logan Ellis, 22, of Nancy, was southbound on U.S. 25 in his 2000 Chevrolet Malibu when he lost control in a curve, ran off the road and struck a utility pole, police said. The severe impact caused the car to split into two.

The women, Heather Stanley, 21, and Stacy Hopkins, 43, both of Dry Ridge, were pronounced dead at the scene. Ellis was transported by ground to University Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio with non life-threatening injuries.

The collision is under investigation by the Boone County Sheriff's Office Accident Reconstruction Team. Officials said excessive speed was a contributing factor.
