At least two Kentuckians were among the thousands of passengers aboard the cruise ship that ran aground in Italy.
Sarah Moore told the Daily News of Bowling Green that her daughter, Lauren Moore, had just started a 10-day Mediterranean cruise Friday night when ship ran aground. Her daughter was flying home Sunday, she said. Another Kentuckian, Joe Ryan, also survived and was trying to get home, according to his father, Larry Ryan. Larry Ryan said his son said he and his friends were having dinner when the lights on the ship went out and things started falling off the table. His son, an Eastern Kentucky University graduate student, said they were told to get in the lifeboats.
Divers are searching for 15 passengers who remained missing. The boat carried some 4,200 passengers. Five have been reported dead.
