Car hits house in south Lexington

A man was taken to the hospital Monday night after crashing into a light pole, then a home, on Bold Bidder Drive.

The incident occurred at about 7:30 p.m., when the SUV collided with the pole in front of 3593 Bold Bidder Drive.

Mary Ellen Stephan, the homeowner, said she was gardening in the back yard when she heard "a big crash" and went to the front of the house to see the vehicle lodged against the light pole.

She said "the driver seemed to panic and seemed very disoriented," then accelerated and hit the front of the house, breaking out a window and the bricks around it.

Major Daniel Bellot of the Lexington Fire Department said he thinks the driver, who was not identified, had some sort of medical emergency.

The fire department installed a support system in the front of the house. Bellot said the residents of the home would probably have to stay elsewhere for the night.
