19-year-old charged in Lexington shooting

Lexington police charged a man Wednesday in a shooting last week that sent another man to the hospital.

Daquan Jermaine Gatling, 19, of Lexington was charged with first-degree assault.

According to an arrest warrant filed in district court Thursday, the victim, William Parks, was in an argument with Gatling on April 20 in the area of Fifth and Smith streets.

Gatling allegedly drew a handgun and fired at Parks, hitting him once in the hand and once in the leg, the document said.

Parks took himself to Good Samaritan Hospital. Parks told officers he knew the shooter as "G-Baby," but he identified Gatling as the shooter when shown a photo lineup.

Police found Gatling about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday near the intersection of Leestown and Forbes roads.

Gatling was scheduled to be arraigned Thursday afternoon.
