New strategic plan for Transylvania University calls for major growth

Transylvania University has released a new strategic plan aimed at growing the student body and physical campus of Lexington's small urban college.

Transylvania 2020 sets targets for the next seven years that include building a student enrollment of 1,500, with 50 percent of those students coming from out of state; increasing full-time faculty to 125; achieving a top 50 ranking among liberal arts colleges in the nation; and swelling the endowment to $200 million.

The plan also calls for new athletic fields on land that Transylvania bought last year on Fourth Street, a new swimming center, new tennis courts, replacement of existing residence halls and the construction of new ones, at least two new academic buildings and a cultural resource center.

The university's board of trustees approved the plan at its January meeting. For more information about the plan, go to www.transy.edu/plan2020.
