A two-vehicle crash in Madison County has left one person dead and another injured, Kentucky State Police spokesman Paul Blanton said.
Evelyn Applegate, 53, of Berea was declared dead at Baptist Health Hospital in Richmond, according to a news release from state police. William R. Wiley, 27, of McKee was taken to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital. His condition was not available.
Police responded at 5:35 a.m. Tuesday to reports of a head-on collision on Battlefield Memorial Highway. The cause of the wreck had not been determined. The release said Wiley was driving a Jeep Wrangler and crossed the center line, striking the Chevrolet S-10 that Applegate was driving.
Blanton said he did not think weather played a part in Wiley’s crossing the line, but it might have affected Applegate’s ability to see the oncoming Jeep.
