Two men were taken to the hospital after an assault on Fieldmoor Drive Tuesday night.

Neighbors of a man who lives on the 4600 block of Fieldmoor called police at about 8:45 p.m. to report that the man had been assaulted in the front yard of the home, said Lt. Chris Young of the Lexington police.

In police radio traffic, a dispatcher said neighbors reported that the man had been assaulted with a two-by-four.

The victim went into a neighbor's home, and the man who had assaulted him went into the victim's house, where police found him in the den trying to stab himself with a knife, Young said.

Young said police did not yet know the men's identities, their conditions or what prompted the assault.

He said he did not think the man who was assaulted outside the home had life-threatening injuries.

A police officer responding to the scene told dispatchers the man inside the house tried to stab himself in the neck.

"There's blood all over the place," Young said.
