Southbound Interstate 75 north of Lexington was closed for more than three hours midday Saturday because of a diesel fuel leak from a tractor-trailer.
A Lexington police spokesman said that the interstate was shut down at Exit 118, where I-75 and I-64 West split, shortly after 11 a.m. when the driver of the truck found that it was leaking diesel fuel after getting on the interstate.
At the place where the truck stopped, fuel leaked across all lanes of traffic, prompting police to close the road and divert traffic onto I-64 West at Exit 118 while an environmental services contractor cleaned up the spill.
Southbound traffic was diverted off the interstate at Exit 120 in Scott County. The incident caused traffic to back up for miles. The interstate re-opened shortly before 3 p.m.
