A Booneville man was listed in fair condition Friday at University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital after he was shot while trying to help a woman who was being assaulted in Owsley County.
Jason Reed was wounded Thursday afternoon during a fight between Joshua Hensley and his wife, Andrea Hensley, Kentucky State Police said.
Joshua Hensley, 28, also of Booneville, allegedly attacked his wife with a knife, then shot Reed when he intervened, police said.
Joshua Hensley was charged with two counts of first-degree assault, four counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, and one count of first-degree trespassing, according to state police.

The attack occurred about 3 p.m. Thursday at a home on Ky. 708 in Owsley County, authorities said. State police, the Owsley County Sheriff's Department and the Booneville Police Department responded to a report of a disturbance.
Joshua Hensley allegedly shot Reed in the back when he tried to help the wounded Andrea Hensley out of the house, state police said. She was treated at Kentucky River Hospital in Jackson for injuries described as not life-threatening.
Joshua Hensley was taken to the Three Forks Regional Jail at Beattyville, police said. An investigation continues.
